I have been a Reiki master teacher for the last few years, and the biggest question I get asked is, “what is Reiki good for?” So let’s go into the basics of what Reiki is, and then I’ll address how you can benefit from this healing technique.
The second question I get asked is, “What does Reiki have in common with homesteading?” You’d be surprised!
When I began my journey into homesteading many years ago, I was pretty healthy aside from migraines. I had an insatiable desire to learn more about herbs and natural healing, because I really don’t like doctors and I wanted to be able to help myself and my family without relying on them. I was also desperate to get rid of my migraines. This fit in perfectly with my homesteading goals of becoming more self-sufficient.
Fast forward 20 years, and I was not only dealing with migraines, but also fibromyalgia, anxiety, osteoarthritis and an assortment of other odds and ends. And I felt pretty hopeless because all the herbs that I tried didn’t seem to do anything.
My husband and I got married, and I started to re-examine the things I knew about herbs. My approach was all wrong. I was treating herbs as drugs with a “take 2 of these and call me in the morning” attitude. But that’s not how herbs work.
Without getting too off topic, herbs work in many ways, including energetically. So I started learning more about the body’s energy which eventually lead me to learning about Reiki. Lucky for me, I have a dear friend who is also a Reiki master teacher, and she was kind enough to teach me this ancient healing technique.
I am now a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals, the International Reiki Association, the Reiki Healing Association, and The Distance Healing Network. I’m also completing my degree in Metaphysics, so it has been quite a journey!
Practicing every day, along with yoga and meditation, is part of a holistic lifestyle. It is healing your body naturally with far less reliance on the wide world of commercial medicine.
That doesn’t mean that I never see a doctor. To be sure, there are some situations where you simply need to get medical help. Just to be clear, I would NEVER recommend that someone stop seeing their doctor or quit medications. But this therapy is good for anything, it’s not invasive, and it’s completely safe, so I always recommend that people give it a try.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is made up of two Japanese words. Rei means “Universal Life” and Ki means “Power” or “Energy”. Reiki uses Universal life energy to balance the body’s energy and encourage healing. Mikao Usui “discovered” this healing modaity in 1922, but it is believed to be much older. During his life, Usui taught Reiki to over 2000 people and helped heal many more.
Here are some facts:
Reiki includes a number of hand positions used by practitioners. Hand positions direct energy into the client’s body and regulate the body’s energies to promote wellness and healing. A session usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes and can be experienced in person or via distance.
The Reiki practitioner places his/her hands lightly on the body at the chakra points. You may feel warmth, tinglings sensations, or you may feel nothing at all. Rest assured, whatever you experience, it is completely normal.
Some practitioners do not touch the recipient. Instead, they place their hands a few inches above the body’s surface to re-position the chakras’ energy.
Reiki is also sometimes sent via distance. Energy does not recognize time and space, so Reiki can be sent where ever it is needed. Most of my clients are distance clients. This is also a useful way to treat animals that may not be safe to get close to or are not particularly tame. I have used Reiki successfully on my animals – both pets and livestock.
What is Reiki good for
Did you know Reiki is used in many hospitals? In fact, one study showed that patients who received Reiki had lower levels of discomfort, anxiety, and pain than those who had not received it.
It may also help speed healing after surgery.
Reiki is good for anyone including cancer patients, children, pets, and anyone who would like to boost their body’s healing with no dangers or side effects. It is completely safe and perfectly complements any medical treatment you are undergoing.
How can you benefit from Reiki
Whether you are looking for ways to reduce stress or improve your health, Reiki can help you. Every person I have treated will immediately say they feel more relaxed after a session. But the benefits will continue over the next several days after your treatment. You may feel more energy, less pain, or have more mental clarity and a more positive mindset. Reiki energy goes where it is needed in the body and it just seems to know what you need.
Reiki is NOT some miracle cure. You can’t go in for one treatment and expect all of your ills to disappear. There are many levels of healing, and Reiki will support your body as you allow it to.
A Reiki session
Most of my sessions are distance sessions. I may create a crystal grid or suggest crystals that you can use to help guide the healing to a specific issue. In addition, I may suggest some essential oils for you to use that will enhance your experience.
Because I integrate Reiki with Yoga Nidra, I will typically send healing energy while you listen to a Yoga Nidra meditation. All you have to do is listen to the meditations that I have recorded and be guided by my voice. After the session I will ask you some questions to gauge how your session went.
You will likely need several sessions, but that is entirely guided by you. As I said before, you aren’t likely to see a big difference in just one session. But continued sessions will result in feeling more relaxed, better sleep, less pain, and other improvements depending on your body.
Give Reiki a try
The list of what Reiki is good for can be endless. It just depends on you. If you’re ready to give it a try, let me know and I will send an intro session to your inbox! Not only that, but with your intro session you’ll get the opportunity to get 2 free booklets, Yoga Nidra for Ultimate Relaxation and Healing, and Key Principles of Naturopathic Medicine. Because the best way to learn what Reiki is good for is to try it yourself.
