Hi! I’m Kathleen but most of my friends call me Kat. My husband Jeff and I have a little homestead that we’d like to share with you. Our homestead is important to us because it is a step closer to being more self-reliant. And if any major disaster happens, from weather to the economy to who-knows-what, we want to be self-reliant so we can always take care of our family.
When you visit our homestead, you’ll find animals, a garden, woods that are great for foraging, and lots of projects that we hope to finish as our skills grow. We have chickens for eggs and meat, goats for milk and meat, and we hope to have pigs and rabbits soon.
I enjoy cooking and will be doing a lot of canning if the garden does well – meaning, as long as the goats don’t eat it. I also freeze a lot of our food. And let’s not forget my supply of freeze-dried food, just in case. So expect to find posts on gardening, canning and preserving food (as well as posts about the darned goats eating my strawberries again!).
I have been studying herbs for many years so you will find posts on that topic as well. I’ll post information on growing and using herbs, as well as other health related information. I believe the more naturally you live, the healthier you’ll be.
Oh! I’m also a freelance writer and editor. You can find links to my work on my Kat’s Work page. If you need a writer or editor, give me shout. Because, you know, I can’t just make a living selling eggs (as much as I would love that!).
Anyhow, welcome to our homestead! I hope you enjoy your visit.
