Bye-Bye Piggies

Tyrone and Petunia, er.. Pete.

Another really busy day today. I didn’t sleep much last night so I was less than pleased when my alarm went off this morning. But sleeping in was not an option because someone was coming to buy our potbellied pigs today, early.

Our original plan was to breed them and sell or butcher the babies. Yes, potbellied pigs are actually a meat breed, not a house pet. So first we got Tyrone, a solid black piggie who loved having his belly rubbed. Later we added petunia, a black piggie with a white belly. Petunia was very shy with no interest in belly rubs.

After many months, we wondered why we had no babies yet. Then one day, as we stood out by the corral, Petunia walked to the other side to pee – and then it became very obvious why we had no babies. Petunia was actually Pete. We had two males.

My husband and I discussed it a bit and decided right now we would just focus on our Nigerian goats. The pigs needed to go until we were better set up. Fortunately, some very nice people decided they wanted both of them, and they are on their way to their new home. 🙂

It was a bit sad to see them go, but I am glad they have a nice new home.
