Okay, so I am way behind on the A- Z Challenge. I don’t even know where we are at this point. All I know is things have been crazy busy here and I am having a hard time keeping up.
Jeff and I (mostly Jeff) cleaned and organized the barn so we can actually get a truck in there if we need to. That worked out really well since we got hail the other night. Perfect timing.
Jeff and my son Joshua tilled up a larger garden area for me (and I can’t remember what it measures. 800 square feet? 900? Something like that.). We also got the t-posts in for the fence that will keep goats and rabbits out of the garden this year. Yay! Is it weird that I find that exciting?
And, speaking of rabbits, we bought a nice 5-hole rabbit hutch to hang in our soon to be rabbit area. It is a “room” attached to the chicken coop that will work perfectly for rabbits. Our chicken coop used to be a milk house back in the day. The rabbit section was actually a trough for water, but it has doors on the front and sides, so once rabbits are in there, it can be closed to protect them from weather and predators. It’s perfect! Things are moving right along. Now I just have to find some meat rabbits and we will be on our way to having rabbit meat in the freezer.
Then the rain moved in. The last few days have been rainy and yucky, and yesterday, we got more snow! Seriously??? <sigh> I have really had enough snow, but living in Wisconsin, we can even get snow around my birthday in May. So I guess I can’t grumble too much (but I still will). It will melt today and maybe we will get part of the garden fence up.
I also REALLY need to worm the goats. Now that the barn is so nice and organized, we can set up the milking stand and I can get each goat on there for worming, vitamins and an all over check-up. Honestly, I should be getting the girls up there every day anyhow to be getting them used to it for milking, but as usual, I have more to do than my body can keep up with (my body hates me, but that’s a whole different post for another day).
So it may seem that I have been neglecting the blog, I have just been super busy on the homestead. And I will continue to be, because it is spring even if there is snow on the ground. And spring is when things happen! 🙂
There is a lot going on over there but it sounds fun!!
Yes, fun but exhausting. 🙂 But I can not complain about being bored!
