Ensure a Sustainable Food Source for Homestead Survival

As a homesteader, it’s wise to build up varied and sustainable food sources for use year after year. While stockpiling food has its advantages, always having a renewable food source makes you more prepared for long-term emergencies.

Homesteading is an increasingly popular survival prep method, where people purchase large (and not so large) properties to live a more self-sufficient lifestyle. It’s not unusual for some people to go so far as to completely escape the grid, becoming self-sufficient. This has always been my goal, but it’s not for everyone and certainly not easy to achieve. But you can build a sustainable food source now, even if you haven’t created your ideal homestead.

Reflections

easter bonfire

Happy Spring! I know that spring started a few weeks ago, but I have been a little preoccupied lately.

We had our first bonfire of the year on Easter Sunday. I really love to watch a good bonfire. Those flames are like art to me and my husband, being awesome at building fires, is my favorite artist. The embers were so hot, they looked like an enormous pile of glowing rubies. So beautiful; it’s hard to keep from reaching out to touch them sometimes.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Okay, so I am way behind on the A- Z Challenge. I don’t even know where we are at this point. All I know is things have been crazy busy here and I am having a hard time keeping up.

Jeff and I (mostly Jeff) cleaned and organized the barn so we can actually get a truck in there if we need to. That worked out really well since we got hail the other night. Perfect timing.

G – Goats and Gardening

Today is another twofer, this time for the letter G. I can’t decide whether to write about goats or gardening, both of which I love.

Gardening was my first love. I have been gardening since I was old enough to stand up. My parents always had a huge garden, and summer was highlighted by eating fresh, yummy veggies every day.
